#Positivity requires work and work takes energy. #Negativity drains energy.

Either way, you lose #energy. If you have to lose something, lose it on good things. Or better said invest it, because positivity will give you back. Negativity won't. It will damage you. Think of negativity as a poison.

Every time you feel bad mood is taking over you or negative thoughts are "attacking" you, try to switch into positive state.

Here are some things you can try to get in a good mood:

1. Talk to someone that is usually in good mood. If you don't have anyone like that, then talk to anyone. Just be careful not to end up talking to another person that is in a bad mood.

If you still can't find someone to talk to or simply you are antisocial person, you can try to follow some comedian or fun celebrity on the social media and "contract" their good mood.

2. Laugh. Laughter is the best medicine. If you can laugh with someone else then go for that first. Go to the movies with your friends, join fun social gatherings or just gather up for a game night. If you are unable do that, then watch funny videos, stand-up comedy, comedy shows and movies, read jokes etc. You can click like on funny pages or follow comedians on social media and enjoy their posts on daily basis.

3. Play happy, upbeat songs. Music has the power. The beat moves your body, literally. The sound vibrations affect your cells and you vibrate with the music. You don't believe me? Have you ever stood next to a giant speaker?

4. Play with a pet. Cats and dogs have positive effect on people. Playing with an animal is therapeutic. Cat's purr has healing properties.

5. Exercise. Moving is always good. Do at least few exercises for 10-20 minutes. Jump, run, dance, anything will do. Exercise releases endorphins.

6. Try to remember some pleasant memories. Happier days. Everything is in your brain. Even the good mood. By remembering good things, you remind yourself that you can be happy again.

7. Sniff vanilla and lavender, eat chocolate to stimulate your body to release endorphin and have a healthy intake of: iron, vitamin B6, folate and vitamin E for dopamine.

8. Pray or chant (repeat positive affirmations: I am in good mood. I am happy person. I am loved. I am healthy). Try to convince yourself that your statements are true. You can do this while doing some of the other things on this list. Positive affirmations best work before you go to sleep and right after you wake up.

9. Clean or tidy up your living space. Often we don't realize it, but clutter and dirty rooms cause bad mood.

10. Get a fresh air. Go for a walk, ventilate your room/house, breathe deeply.

11. Give a hug. Hugging is non-verbal socializing. Every human being needs to socialize. Hugs are often comforting and can make you feel loved.

12. Do something nice for someone. Seeing someone happy and joyful gives you positive feelings. Give compliments, flower, card, mug to someone you love. Give away things you no longer use/need to those in need, help someone, volunteer...

13. Get a hobby. Draw, paint, knit, make a photo album, tend your garden, play an instrument, play sports, whatever suits your likes.

14. Read a book. It will take your mind off your worries and the bad thoughts.

15. Find something to do. Any distraction is good. Cook, make a tea, write a poem, paint/draw something, start DIY project, organize your storage/closet/shelves, put a beauty mask, make yourself a bubble bath, volunteer somewhere, go to a museum, take a course, do visualization exercises...

16. Engage your senses: Stargaze, cloud gaze, watch bugs, smell the flowers, smell the grass, smell the leaves, listen to the birds, listen to the wind, touch the ground with bare feet, touch the rocks, touch the tree bark...

17. Meditate. Focus your mind on something else and relax.

18. Write a diary. I used to write in my diary a lot, usually expressing my negative emotions and by doing that I "digested" them easily. Once I read them, I realized how silly some of them are. Try it out. If writing a diary is not your thing, then just lay down your emotions and thoughts on paper and see how it will go.

19. Cry. There is no shame in that. Crying is the way the body reacts to negative emotions.

I always feel relieved after crying. It is like I filtered my soul and I feel refreshed.

20. Gratitude. Never underestimate the power of gratitude. Gratitude itself is positive feeling and by being grateful about anything, we rewire our brain into a positive pattern.

21. Make a list of your successes and things that you are proud of. That way you can remind yourself that you are capable of great things and you deserve to be happy!

Some days, no matter what you do, you can't get into a positive mood. And that is OK. Let things flow naturally for a while. Just don't let them take over your life.

At times like those is important to remember that whatever you are feeling is momentary and it will go away. Don't identify yourself with it. You are not your feelings.
